Chapter Ten: Build Core Customer Base

Many startups I have worked with found it extremely useful to assemble a sales portfolio to be used as a visual aid when meeting with prospects. Having a business card and brochure or flyer to hand out to companies you call on is simply not enough. A professional, bound portfolio is very useful when used in concert with your sales presentation. Keep your presentation brief and simple, no longer than 3 minutes from start to finish. Leave the prospect with your card, brochure, and a discount coupon or offer that will entice them to give your service a try. Note: The sample print using your recycled cartridge must look as good if not better than the OEM print. This is vital to your success. People will be very critical of the ink quality, and your product must stand up to the test. Run a bunch of test prints using various programs (as well as the printer's self test) to determine which will make the best presentation. If you cannot produce a printout that looks as good as the OEM, re-examine your methods, especially what inks you are using. Properly formulated, premium inks are vital to producing a quality remanufactured cartridge. Your profit margins are high enough to allow the use of the best inks available.
