In the ink jet business we all know about dye and pigment inks. Now, R Jet Tek is introducing "dye sublimation ink jet ink." Dye sublimation ink is used to print on special paper and then the image is transferred using heat and pressure from the paper to various synthetic polyester fabrics like shirts, mouse pads, ties, caps or polycoated materials (substrates) such as ceramic mugs, tile, wood, FRP fiber reinforced plastic, coated aluminum and metals etc. Any image you can create in your computer that can be printed on an ink jet printer can be sublimated. The potential is infinite as one’s imagination.
Mike Warner is heading up this new opportunity at the R Jet Tek. At the Recharger World Expo, he demonstrated the system and discussed the opportunities available in the numerous vertical markets including personalized products, specialty advertising, interior signage, name badges and name plates, architectural and engineering, home interior decorating.
According to Warner many remanufacturers have most of the equipment they will need to begin including a computer, software such as Corel Draw, and an Epson 900/980 or 3000 printer, so startup costs are minimal. Additional equipment is a heat press priced from $400 to $2500 depending on size and features.
"The real advantage of dye sublimation over silk screening etc., is you can make one-of-a -kind items and personalize everything," Warner said. "It is called breadth not depth. Perhaps the most important asset remanufacturers have is their existing customer base."
