Part Four: Growing Your Business

Chapter One: Ink Jet Cartridge Processing Equipment

At some point, you may find your company remanufacturing large quantities of like cartridges. This can occur through sheer volume of business, large contract agreements, subcontracting, or a combination of all three. Before adding additional staff to handle your increased workload, consider purchasing some cartridge processing automation equipment. There are a handful of manufacturers offering this type of equipment. A listing of these can be found in the resources chapter. Great care should be taken before investing in this equipment, which can cost from $2,500.00 to $25,000.00. Interestingly, machines from manufacturers on the low end are not that much different from the high-end machines in terms of what functions they actually perform, and their production rate. The production increase gained by the adding of automated equipment is roughly 3 times. The most practical machines are usually the low-cost, dedicated, or single purpose units. These inexpensive models are designed to handle one cartridge model (with variations) in high volume. Most often, this cartridge is the HP 51626A, and HP 51629A. As you already know, these two account for roughly 60% of the market. It makes sense for most companies to automate remanufacturing of this cartridge first, unless they have contracted to remanufacture large numbers of some other cartridge for a specific customer.
